
Universia has organized the seminar 'A new paradigm of global education' on the Massive Open Online Courses, better known as MOOCs. This training will be held from 6 to 8 March 2013 and institutions and organisations such as MIT-OCW, MIT, and Coursera HarvardX will be involved. In the seminar, initiatives will be brought forward such as Myriad X.
The seminar, to be held in Miami, relies on speakers, such as Daphne Koller, founding partner of Coursera; and representatives from HardvardX, MITX and EdX, who will present their respective proposals. It will also be introduced Miríada X, the initiative that Universia is launching along with Telefónica Learning Services and the collaboration with the CSEV foundations, consisting of a platform for teaching staff and teams from any of the iberoamerican universities that form Red Universia, where MOOCs can be created and taught, being accessible for everybody at no cost.
MOOCs are massive, open, online courses, aimed at a high number of participants and free-to-access on the web. Its goal is to spread universitary knowledge in a segmented way, by areas and topic. Each course is recorded by a university professor and offers the possibility to be certified.
The goals of the seminar that Universia offers is to know the importance of MOOCs in a worldwide context and the philosophy linked to this initiative; to study MOOCs and its university adaptaions in deapth; to discover existing technology for these platforms; and to study the costs, financial investment and human resources.
