The signing of an agreement between the City Council of L’Eliana and the Universitat de València, as well as the official presentation of the project to the technicians, the media and the various associations of the municipality of Camp de Túria, have marked the start of the tasks of a Smart City project.

“L'Eliana, smart city” is a project that aims to address key issues such as the applied innovation, better planning, participatory approach, energy efficiency, improved transport and mobility solutions, or the intelligent use of ICT. As the project leader points out, Professor Vicente Cerverón, director of school of engineering at the Universitat de València, is a project that seeks the benefit of people, and not technology itself.

The initiative has come from the City Council and its development has set a team of specialists from the Universitat de València, in areas such as new technology, territorial development and communication. It will involve the participation of municipal technicians and citizens through various forums that will be organized.

As a methodological tool, a participatory strategic of planning will be applied, based on integrated diagnosis, plan design and configuration of indicators that allow to compare the results of their implementation.

The areas that will be addressed, among others, are social innovation and life quality, sustainable urban mobility, energy and environmental management, governance, economics and business.

It has created a monitoring committee, formed by the mayor, José María Angel, and the Vice Chancellor for Participation and Territorial Projection of the Universitat de València, Jorge Hermosilla, who have stated that the 'L'Eliana Smart City' project represents a new opportunity for collaboration between the Valencian institutions for the benefit of citizens.
