Esteban Morcillo and Serafín Castellano.

The Universitat’s principal, Esteban Morcillo, and the Valencian governance minister, Serafín Castellano, signed an agreement to implement educational, training, research and popularization activities about subjects of interest of both institutions yesterday. In the commemoration year of the 30th anniversary of the passing of Estatut d’Autonomia, this agreement will soon allow the promotion of a chair for local civil law.

The principal stressed that there are many cooperation fields for the Universitat and Conselleria. He particularly mentioned the field of law, where the Universitat not only creates law knowledge but it also serves the society. He recalled that the Universitat has been a pioneer in creating some chairs in the medicine and law fields. Now, one of those pioneering chairs will be recovered with the creation of the chair for local civil law.

The minister thinks that law, along with language and culture are important distinguishing features of a community. Castellano also expressed his will to extend the collaboration with the Universitat to other areas.

The following figures attended the agreement’s signing: the vice-principal for communication and institutional relations, Silvia Barona; the Universitat’s general secretary, María José Añón; the Valencian governance secretary, Asunción Quinzá; the general manager for the statutory development, José Manuel Miralles; and the professor Javier Palau, who will be the director of the chair for local civil law.

Besides the implementation of the chair itself, the agreement previews joint actions such as specialized courses, seminars, conferences, research activities, publications and research grants, among others.
