Universitat de València’s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, and Valencian Government Minister for Justice and Social Welfare, Jorge Cabré, signed an agreement last March 13th. From now on, the university will receive 349,991 Euros in order to support the Centre Universitari de Diagnòstic i Atenció Primerenca (CUDAP). This amount will cover the maintenance during 2012. Created in 2006, CUDAP’s purposes are treatment and prevention of children suffering from or at risk of developmental problems due to prenatal, perinatal or postnatal causes.
The Vice-principal for Teaching Staff and Academic Arrangement, Mavi Mestre; CUDAP’s director, Francisco Alcantud; and the manager of the General Foundation of Universitat de València, Cristóbal Suria, attended the event. Besides Cabré, from the Valencian Regional Government, the general director for dependence, Pilar Collado, and the regional secretary for personal autonomy and dependence, Joaquín Martínez, were also there.
Universitat de València’s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, stressed that ‘CUDAP offers an added value, for it is useful to better understand and improve teaching through our students doing internships there, but because it enriches research activities and the welfare of the people in the centre is increased.’ He also recalled that having this centre linked to Universitat de València ‘allows us to offer a comprehensive care to users, who will have tha assistance of psychologists, speech therapists and other carers’.
In his turn, the Valencian Minister for Justice and Social Welfare, Jorge Cabré, pointed out that’ the Generalitat has not cut its budget for social policies’ and he recalled that his department has invested 6,1 millios Euros in 31 primary care centres.
According to CUDAP’s creation document, signed in 2006, between Universitat de València and the Valencian Ministry, this primary care centre has the goal of developing its teaching and researching tasks in the prevention area. For this reason, the centre will operate as a mixed research, teaching and community service development centre.
