
Universitat de València and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) signed last Friday, July 20, a collaboration agreement to develop doctorate programmes at some of the council’s centres or institutes. This initiative is promoted by both institutions as well as Universitat Politècnica and International Excellence Campus (VLC/CAMPUS).
The agreement will allow to preserve and promote the quality and excellence of doctorate programmes with the aim of reinforcing the students instruction in related areas of research.
The UV’s Principal, Esteban Morcillo, the Vice-Principal for graduate studies, Rosa Marín, the Vice-president for Organization and Institutional Relations at CSIC, José Ramón Urquijo, and the Institutional Coordinator of CSIC at Comunitat Valenciana, José Pío Beltrán, attended the agreement signing at La Nau.
The Vice-Principal Rosa Marín stated that this agreement will strenghthen the existing relations between UV and CSIC ‘regarding doctorate programmes and other research projects.’ The Vice-Principal added that this agreement ‘stems from the work which has already been undertaken by VLC-Campus.’
José Ramón Urquijo, Vice-President for Organization and Institutional Relations at CSIC, expressed his satisfaction regarding the agreement signing since ‘it will involve CSIC’s scientific-research staff in the theoretical teaching of the doctorate programmes, which will reinforce the relationship between CSIC and the universities.’
The agreement includes the undertaking of practical activities at CSIC’s centres or institutes. Doctorate students will be able to carry out researches related with their doctoral theses, and will be supervised by CSIC’s staff.
Universitat de València is the second European university receiving Erasmus students and the fourth in the world. It is ranked between the 201 and the 300 position in the Ranking Jiao Tong of Shanghai. It has got a total of 46,000 students, being 7,500 of master’s degrees and 5,000 of postgraduate courses.
The Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) is the largest public institution devoted to research in Spain and the third in Europe. It is attached to the Spanish Ministry for Economy and Competitiveness through the State Secretary for Research, Development and Innovation. It has a central role in the scientific and technological policy.
