Again, Universitat de València is the second favourite academic institution in Europe for Erasmus students. This is what the data recently published by the European Commission in the document titled ‘Top 100 Higher Education Institutions Receiving Erasmus Students 2010/2011’ states. This document shows the international mobility statistics of the Erasmus programme.
Universitat de València received a total of 1,693 Erasmus students –only better than Universidad de Granada, which received 2,019. This way, the Universitat becomes the second favourite destination for the students who have moved abroad on last academic year to study at a European university within this programme. Behind these two universities is Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the Bolonia University, Universidad de Sevilla and Universitat Politècnica de València.
This exchange programme, which celebrates its twenty-five anniversary this year, has beat its record because it has had an 8.5% increase in the student exchanges, according to the data of the European Commission. This is the best knows educational programme in the European Union and it is not only about academic exchange but also cultural exchange. Universitat also holds the 4th position in sending students abroad under this programme.
Olga Gil Medrano, Vice-principal for International Relations and Cooperation, affirms that the most important is not only ‘to appear in the rankings’ but ‘to make our university an international university’. Then, most UV’s students unable to enjoy this programme can share their classrooms with students from abroad.’
Universitat de València offers the students a wide range of degrees. This a good point for our institution and helps the students make UV one of their favourite destinations. The most popular degrees among Erasmus students are the philological studies and economic studies: ‘A third of the students coming from abroad study philology; a second third economy; and a third third are scattered in the rest of the degrees.’
