Yesterday, Universitat de València, Universitat Politècnica de València and the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) presented the research microcluster ‘Innovación para una Vitivinicultura Sostenible y de Calidad (IViSoCa)’. This is a strategic bond of the three institutions in the framework of VLC/CAMPUS and the objective is to contribute to the winemaking sector from R&D field.
The mmicrocluster intends to join research and scientific transfer at Universitat de València, Politècnica and Instituto de Agroquímica y Tecnología de Alimentos (IATA), CSIC, and other entities as the Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA) and Instituto Tecnológico de Viticultura y Enología (ITVE).
The microcluster has more than 50 researchers employed. It has three basic axes: ‘De la tierra a la uva’, ‘De la uva a la botella’, and ‘De la botella a la copa’. These axes correspond with the three main traditional sections contributing to quality and comercial success of the wines and they are all the processess likely to be studied: agrology, winemaking, oenology, microbiology, biotechnology, and marketing.
During the presentation, the representatives of the main institutions in this group – Sergi Ferrer, from Universitat de València; Domingo Salazar, from Universitat Politècnica de València; and José Manuel Guillamón, from IATA (CSIC) – shown the activities they have already carried out within the microcluster so far and stated their will to activate the cooperation between the microcluster and the business world. ‘The research implemented by the people at IViSoCa will allow to offer to the companies different tools to face new challenges.’
The groups making up the IViSoCa have already established contact and collaboration with different companies of the field, both in the area of winemaking and in the area of oenology, microbiology, biotechnology, and marketing. Among these companies: Agrovin, SAT Fuenteseca, Ecovitis, Cotevisa, Lallemand, SEPSA, Verema.com, CajaCampo, Caja Rural Coop. de Crédito, PRIMUM BOBAL, and the regulating boards of Alicante, Valencia, Utiel-Requena, and Vins de la Terra de Castelló.
The microcluster stems from the structure of ‘oenology multidisciplinary team’ started in 2005 at Universitat de València. Then, it has the aim of connecting the research groups working on subjects related to wine. After that, this relationships were reinforced thanks to the creation of the chair Cátedra Interuniversitaria de la Viña y el Vino, founded by UV and UPV in 2009. From that moment, several integrated groups have cooperated with each other and with Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Agrarias (IVIA), Instituto Tecnológico de Viticultura y Enología (ITVE), and with companies of the winemaking sector. Thanks to this initiative of CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico e Industrial), IViSoCa ‘will follow the line started by IATA and the group ENOLAB in 2008, now members of the same microcluster.’
IViSoCa tries to offer the research from these multidisciplinary groups to obtain more and more safer and quality products and which will nicely presented to all the parties, from the produces and researchers to the final user.
