The Universitat de València realises this Wednesday, 6 April, a homage to pioneer women who began a path in the government of the centres of the institution. Organised by the Unitat d’Igualtat, the event will start at 19:00 in the Paranimf of the historic building of La Nau. There will participate the principal, Esteban Morcillo; the vice-principal of Culture and Equality, Antonio Ariño; the full university professor of History Isabel Morant; the director of Universities, Josefina Bueno; and the head of Unitat d’Igualtat, Amparo Mañés.
The Unitat d’Igualtat does annually acts allocated to the recovery of the historic memory of women whose work and effort contributed to make our university institution grow until transform it the way it is now. This year are honoured 56 women, all of them pioneer in government bodies of their centres. The first women who were deans, vice-deans, secretaries and vice-secretaries of each one of the faculties and schools of the UV. In recognition for their labour and their agreement with the University, these pioneer will obtain a diploma in the Paranimf of the UV.
In the conference by Isabel Morant, ‘Mujeres y espacio publico. ¿A contracorriente?’ (Women and public space. Against the current?), there will be a mention to the work funded by the Unitat d’Igualtat, which under its supervision, made the first women names conquered the university as professional space. The objective of this research has been to study the historical process with which women are part of the university staff meeting, as researchers and professors, in a first moment, and, with academic posts later.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the vice-principal Antonio Ariño will give the 2nd Price Olga Quiñones, convened by the Unitat d’Igualtat in 2015, to the two students awarded by their Final Project and Master’s Final Project, in women and gender subject.
At the end, the chorus of women ‘A cau d’orella’, will perform a musical act which, among other, will include ‘Gaudeamus Igitur’.
