Universitat presents a critical balance on the human rights of Spain

Tomorrow, on Tuesday, at the Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València, the book titled “Human Rights in Spain: a critical balance” will be presented, which is a work that gathers the studies made by the frustrated report about the II Plan Nacional of Human Rights, the one the Government moved its support away and Universitat de València and Tirant lo Blanch editorial are now publishing.

The event will take place at the Aula Magna, at 19h, and has been organised by the Human Rights Institute of Universitat de València. It will count with the participation of Fernando Rey, full university professor of Constitutional Law of the University of Valladolid and Director of the report; Joana Abrisketa, professor of the University of Deusto who wrote the chapter on education and international co-operation; Angeles Solanes, professor of Universitat de València and author of the report on immigrants, refugees and human rights education; and Javier of Lucas, full university professor of Philosophy of Law and author of the prologue of this work, in which twenty university professors have participated.
In the work, it is exposed and criticised the general situation of the mechanisms of guarantee of rights, as well as of the presence of rights in policies of international co-operation and of human rights education. Furthermore, the authors made a critical detailed analysis of the different areas of rights: civil rights, political rights, social rights, equality men-women and social specific groups (elderly, children, disabled, immigrants and refugees). “It was precisely the natural critic of the book, typical of any university work, - explains Javier Lucas- and this made the retirement of the governmental support to such project, it couldn’t submit to the laudatory demands of the executive power and now, fortunately, it is hopeful for the Tirant lo Blanch with the support of Publicacions de la Universitat de València and of the Human Development Index (HDI)”.
