The University is offering, for the second term, two subjects worth six credits on “Sustainability Studies”, accessible for both, degree students and students from licenciatura (former Spanish undergraduate degree), throughout their training period in any course. ‘Sustainability, Science and Technology’ will be taught in the Burjassot-Paterna Campus, whereas ‘Sustainability, Culture and Education’ in Blasco Ibañez.

This teaching proposal is part of the institutional strategy Campus Sostenible-promoted by the Office of the Vice-principal for Sustainability and Planning and approved by the Council of the Government in September 2011-which has as purpose promoting sustainability culture in all university areas, that is, the educative, research, management and relations with society.

Organization and teaching management correspond to the ERI Research Institutes and Structures of Interdisciplinary Research) of Sustainability. Lessons will be semi-presential and taught during the period from February to May 2015. There will be fourteen face-to-face sessions, online teaching activities and the usage of several audio-visual resources. The auto-enrolment can be done through the website of the University Extension Service.

The UV inspires, one academic year more, the incorporation of Sustainability into studies because it gives the opportunity to expand academic training and acquiring cross-disciplinary skills, complementary to those specifically included in each degree and coherent with the sustainable development. With the integration of sustainable criteria in academic and professional training for the European labour market, the CV also approaches to the community regulation of the European Committee and to the Bologna Plan.

On the other hand, the vice-principal for Sustainability and Planning Clara Martinez, recalls that this teaching proposal “implicates a step forward in the development of the Sustainable Campus strategy, through which we want our campus to be more sustainable and healthy in the year 2015, and at the same time to promote commitment, social participation and practice alienated with fair trade”.
