The University of Valencia organizes from next Monday, 21 October, the International Open Access Week. Under the slogan 'Publish and disseminate in open access: make yourself visible!', The University of Valencia joins for the first time this initiative that is celebrated around the world.

To this end, a series of activities are scheduled in the different campuses that include presentations, lectures, discussions and workshops. The sessions are aimed at the entire academic community, are free and seating is limited to the capacity of the rooms.

Open Access (OA) to scientific information is an international movement that consists on the store and access to research results in the network freely and without economic barriers as an alternative to the traditional model of paying for access to information generated in the same institutions. It is allowed the use and distribution provided that the licenses defined by the author of the documents were respected.

The University of Valencia signed its adhesion at Berlin Declaration in 2008 and promotes the open publication of science content produced by its researchers by creating RODERIC, its institutional repository.

The advantages of Open Access publishing are: being more visible, both for authors and for institutions, favouring a greater impact on the results of the research, and ensuring the preservation and conservation.
