University profesor Antonio Camacho, re-elected president of the Asociación Ibérica de Limnología (Iberican Association of Limnology)

Antonio Camacho, professor at the University of Valencia and researcher in the Cavanilles Institute, has been re-elected president of the Iberian Association of Limnology (AIL), scientific entity founded in 1981 by a group of limnologists headed by Ramon Margalef. The association consists of almost 500 Spanish and Portuguese scientists and professionals.

The re-election, for another four years, took place in Santander during the XVII Congreso Ibérico de Limnología (17th Iberian Congress of Limnology), which counted with almost 400 participants from over a dozen countries.

The members of the Asociación Ibérica de Limnología work both in basic and applied aspects of research on epicontinental aquatic ecosystems (rivers, lakes, wetlands).

Antonio Camacho Gonzalez (Valencia, 1965) is doctor in Biological Sciences and Ecology professor at the University of Valencia where he mainly teaches in the degrees of Biology and Environmental Sciences along with different masters. He is a specialist in lakes and wetlands functional ecology and his researches center around microbial ecology and biogeochemical cycles in continental waters and, in particular, in the interaction between aquatic microorganisms and their role in the carbon cycle and their relationship with the climate change.

Camacho is the author of a big amount of scientific publications in indexed magazines and specialized book and has directed six theses. He has done several researching stays in centers from several countries such as the United States of America, France, Holland and Austria to which it is necessary to add the expedition leadership in five researching campaigns in the Antarctic.

He has acted as an external assessor in diverse administrations and enterprises, having directed to the date 25 research projects founded in public calls or through university-enterprise contracts.
