The Association for the organization of the International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics, ICIAM 2019 -Valencia , held its first meeting last Friday, 31st January, in the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Valencia . Driven by SEMA, the Spanish Society of Applied Mathematics, the 2019 ICIAM Association is founded with the objective of coordinating the organization of this conference, which will be held in Blasco Ibañez Campus of the University of Valencia in July 2019. This meeting is expected to attract about 3,400 delegates.
The ICIAM congresses, held every four years, are international conferences, with repercussions throughout the global level, where the latest developments are presented in Applied Mathematics with especial emphasis in all its applications to the productive fabric of society. In these congresses there are also several prestigious awards given to researchers in relevant disciplines related to the theme of the congress. The latest editions of ICIAM were held in Sydney 2003, Zurich 2007 and Vancouver 2011 . The next congress will be held in Beijing ICIAM 2015.
The dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Rafael Crespo, and the Vice President for International Relations and Cooperation of the University of Valencia, Olga Gil, welcomed the members of the association on behalf of the academic institution, confirming the commitment of the University of Valencia with ICIAM 2019.
