
The vice-principal for Studies and Language Policy, Isabel Vazquez, presided Monday an act of recognition of the students of the University of Valencia with better academic performance. These students have been awarded by the Ministry of Education, the Valencian Department of Education and the Foundation Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzo. The session was held in the meeting room of the Office of the Principal building.
The event was attended also by the general secretary of the University of Valencia, María José Añón, the delegate of the Principal for Students, Daniel González Serisola; and Javier Pastor, representing the Foundation Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzó.
Isabel Vázquez stressed "the academic ability of students who were once at the University and have received various awards from the Ministry or the Regional Ministry", as well as that of the best students from freshman year. The vice-principal for Studies and Language Policy also said that "the University is very proud of all of you and hopes that you may also be."
The Ministry of Education has awarded the National Awards for Excellence in Academic Achievement of the 2009/2010. From the University of Valencia the following students have received this recognition: Jovani Carlos Gil (National Prize in Geography), Paul La Parra Perez (National Prize in Art History) and Ayna Reynés Linares (Second in French Studies).
In addition, the Valencian Department of Education has also awarded Carlos Jovaní Gil (Geography), Pablo La Parra Pérez (History of Art); Mercè Gomar Alba (Biology) and Rafael Medina González (Pharmacy), and has also awarded accreditation certificate to Lucia Asensi Bernardí (Pharmacy) and Maria Luisa García López (Teacher Training for Primary Education).
On the other hand, the Foundation Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzó has awarded a prize for the best academic record in first-year undergraduate studies (2011-2012) of each branch of knowledge. The winners were: Fernando Romero López (Physical Sciences); Cristina Zapata de Miguel (Psychology, Health Sciences); Belén Uriol Balbín (Chemical Engineering, Engineering and Architecture); Laura Miñano Mañero (Translation and Interlinguistic Mediation-English, Arts and Humanities) and Salvador Jesús Tormo Pruñonosa (Business Management-Law, Social Sciences and Law).
In addition to academic recognition, in the case of Ministry awards are endowed with 3,300 euros and 2,200 for the second prize. The Valencian Department awarded 3,100 euros to the winners only. The Foundation Carmen Izquierdo Besante Monzó granted 500 euros to each of the best records.
Following the ceremony, Isabel Vazquez moderated a debate in which students presented their views on various issues that concern them, such as the situation of the public education model, improving teaching in Valencian and the need to generate a network that facilitates synergies between winning students or current examination system, among others. "Do not pass the opportunity to defend a public education model that is in your hands," advised Paul La Parra to the best records from first year. "This is a system that fails somewhere," said Maria Luisa García in reference to the public examinations for Primary Education teachers.
