The University of Valencia will reduce 1.05% the 2014 budget compared to the accounts of the previous year. The next year, the academic institution will income and spend 319.613.097 euros (in 2013 they were 323.001.760). It will be the sixth consecutive year of cuts, as has explained the manager, Joan Oltra before the Governing Council. The Board of Trustees must approve the project presented on Tuesday.

The budget for 2014 will be similar to 2006, while costs have continued increasing over the last eight years. Consequently, the actual reduction of available resources is greater than the nominal decrease.
 
According to forecasts, the grant of the Regional Government will be 225.870.734 euros next year (1.04 million less than in 2013). This reduction contrasts with the general budget of the , Regional Government, which will increase by 6.2% in 2014.
 
It is also expected to raise less for tuition fees due to the decline in the number of credits which the student enrols. Thus, it is expected to income for this item 55.395 million euros, up 3.17 % from 2013.
 
On the expenditure side of the budget, it is expected a reduction of 0.45% regarding the staff salaries (it will be placed in 208 898 463 euros). It will be a new year with pay freeze for staff and inability to cover retirements.
 
It also provides a reduction of 1.58 % of the ordinary operating expenses, and to get it the management has asked the management units reduce spending by 5%.
 
Management provides for the coming new year liquidity problems caused by the way of receiving regular monthly payments from the Regional Government, and therefore has recorded similar amount to that of 2013 (3.44 million).
 
The draft budget of the University is not expected any input from the Regional Government intended to repay the old debt, derived from the 2008 Agreement.
 
It was also approved that each of the candidates who are standing for election to Principal receive a maximum of 3.000 euros to fund his election campaign.
 
Increased Medicine places in Spain
 
Furthermore, the Governing Council has endorsed a document approved by the Board of Centre of Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry map on this degree. Dean, Federico Pallardó, has expressed concern over the disproportionate increase in Spain of centres with medical studies, especially in private universities. According to data provided by Pallardó, Spain is the third country in the world in medical schools.

Esteban Morcillo, principal of the University of Valencia, has been re-elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the CRUE, as the first member, as reported by the same principal at the Governing Council. José Manuel López, principal of the University of Zaragoza, is the new president of the CRUE, as decided at the last general assembly, held in Malaga. The vice presidents are Francesc Xavier Grau y Vidal, principal of the Rovira i Virgili, and Marcos Sacristán, principal of Valladolid. The other members are Antonio Ramirez de Arellano, principal of Sevilla; José María Sanz, principal of the Autonomous University of Madrid; and Iosu Zabala, principal of Mondragón Unibertsitatea.

In his report, the principal Esteban Morcillo expressed institutional condolences for the death, in recent weeks, of Francisco de la Mountaña Peña, from the Technical Service and Maintenance Unit Burjassot-Paterna; Manuel Ardit Lucas, full-University Professor of Modern History retired; Francisco Egea Bombarelli, former manager of the University; and Federico Pallardó, former professor of the University and father of the current dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
