The UV’s journal L’Espill has just published its number 39 with a report titled ‘Cap on va la societat valenciana?’ Several authors reflect on the Valencian society in a context of economic and democratic crisis. The journal also includes an unpublished text by the essayist Josep Iborra.
The central report includes contributions by: political scientist Jordi Muñoz, talking on the basis of the right-wing electoral domination; economist and UV’s lecturer Ernest Reig, talking on the international crisis and the Valencian economy; sociologist and UV’s lecturer Rafael Castelló, talking on social trends; journalist Adolf Beltran, talking on autonomy, scope and effect of the corruption at the Valencian Community; and journalists Violeta Tena and Frances Viadel, and sociologist Toni Mollà.
These contributions are illustrative of a peculiar case, though allowing extrapolations, now that the Valencian society is asking itself about the causes and consequences of an specific crisis.
Moreover, L’Espill 39 is offering a wide range of topics and authors. It includes an unpublished posthumous text by the essayist Josep Iborra (‘L’estupor’), as well as articles by Swedish writer Per Wirtén (‘Dónde estabas cuando cayó Europa?’), Martí Domínguez and Anna Mateu (‘Periodismo desestabilizador. El estilo periodístico de María Consuelo Reyna’), the American William Viestenz, the Dutch Tom Van Imschoot, professor Mercè Altimir, historian Xavier Ferré and researcher François Rastier.
As document, the classic by George Orwell Why I write? is included. The books section is made up of reviews by Francisco Fuster, Guillem Llop, Simona Skrabec and Pau Viciano, on books by Maria Muntaner (‘Transformacions’), Antoni Defez (‘Assumptes pendents’), Antoni Martí Monterde (‘Un somni europeu’) and Vicent Flor (‘Ofrenar glòries a Espanya’), respectively.
