The UV, third university in Spain in the U-ranking 2014, elaborated by the Foundation BBVA and the IVIE. The UV has obtained a scoring of 2.8 (the same scoring that the politechnic universities of Madrid and Valencia), and only above the Complutense Univeristy of Madrid and the University of Barcelona. This ordening fis the total volume of overcomes; teachers, researchers and of innovation and technologic development of the Spanish universities, and thus, the size of the university plays an important role on the ranking along with the productivity of each institution.
The project U-ranking has built a conjunt of Summary Indicators of the Spanish University System (ISSUE), keeping in mind the mentioned criteria and following the recommendations of the specialized literature and the experts in the elaboration of indicators.
The project indicators U-Rancking represent four important contributions which make of it a precise, user-friendly tool, utile for responsibles and experts in upper education, for students and for Career Counselors:
It arranges universities by its volume of results (ISSUE-V) as well as by its productivity (ISSUE-P), and it asses the effect of size of the universities. Furthermore, rankings are offered for different qualifications, which gives place to a really useful and usser-friendly tool to choose a university to study.
In the U-Ranking project, once having te relevant variables selected and the sources analyzed, the remaining values are imputed in the data through an automated estimation process. Indicators are normalized so as to its magnitude is mparable. Indicators are weighted and agregated to check level 1 Summary Indicators in four fields-Ressources, Production, Quality and Internationalization-in each of the three dimensions-Teaching, Research and Innovation and Technical Development. The fields of each dimension are weighted and added to construct three level 2 indicators: of Teaching, of Research and of Technical Development. Finally, the three dimensions are weighted and added to obtain an only level 3 systematic indicator, or final ranking.
