The UV, the Universitat Politecnica of Valencia, the IBV, and the Valencian Health Department will cooperate to take part in an European programme on healthy life innovation and active ageing

The UV, the Universitat Politenica of Valencia, the IBV (Institute of Biomedicine of Valencia) and the Valencian Health Department have signed a cooperation agreement to regulate the collaborative relationships between the Valencian Health Department, the Valencian Biomedicine Institute, the Universitat Politecnica of Valencia and the UV, General Studies, for the purpose of their participation in the consortium InnoLIFE, in the case of the authorisation for the call 2014 of the KIC Innovation for healthy living and active ageing, of the European Institute of Technology (EIT).

The agreement has been signed by the Vice-principal of the UV, Esteban Morcillo; the rector of the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, Francisco Mora; Pedro Manuel Vera, Director of the IBV (Valencian Institute for Biomedicine); Teresa de Rojas Galiana, General Director of Planning, Assessment, Research, and Patient Care Quality, and Manuel Lombart, counsellor of Health.

The European Institute of Technology (EIT) is a resource created by the European Union to promote the three angles of the knowledge triangle: research, education and innovation. The main purpose is to motivate the European leadership in innovation through the creation of supranational spaces (Knowledge and Innovation Communities, KIC) which coordinate and invigorate the efforts with the aim to achieve more competitiveness and sustainable economic growth to give a response to the key social challenges.

The KIC for healthy life innovation and active ageing intends to give a response to one of the main European social challenges: the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle and the population’s welfare by maintaining economically sustainable health systems. This KIC will have a systematic impact as entrepreneurs, new technologies and new business, who will work in a transdisciplinar way in fields such as Medicine, Biology, TICs, Economy, Sociology or Psychology, among others. The consortium InnoLIFE is an European initiative created for the presentation of a proposal for the call 2014 to ‘KIC Innovation for healthy living and active ageing’ launched by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). This consortium is integrated by different Member States which shape the following nodes: Spain,Germany, United Kingdom, Scandinavia and France.

In case the proposal is accepted, the consortium InnoLIFE will create an association named KIC-LE to be able to carry out the activities of the initiative. The UV, the IBV (Valencian Institute for Biomedicine) and the Universitat Politecnica of Valencia, through their respective foundations, will create a non-lucrative association to participate as Core-Partner in the KIC-LE, in case the proposal is conceded. By his part, the Valencian Health Department would act as the coordinator body of the following signatory institutions of the “Memorandum of Understanding” (MOU): Foundation for the investigation of the University and Polytechnic Hospital La Fe of the Valencia Region, Foundation of the Valencia Region, Research Center Príncipe Felipe, Foundation for the Rehearsal of the Healthy and Biomedical Research of the Valencia Region, Foundation for the Research of the Clinic Hospital of the Valencia Region/Foundation for the Valencian research of Infertility, Foundation of the Valencia Region General Hospital for the Biomedical Research, Teaching and Developing of the Healthy Sciences, Foundation for the Valencian Research of Oncology, who will participate as Project Partners. The Valencian Health Department will exercise the institutional representation in front of third persons, with the aim to support and promote the joint regional visibility of the healthy I+D+I of the Valencia Region. Through this agreement, the signatory parts are compromised to promote the participation of all the components of the Valencian Node, acting with the spirit of compromise, motivation, and communication towards all the components with the objective of defending their interests in the governing bodies of the KIC-LE in which they participate.

As reflexed on the agreement, a agreement should not be interpreted in the sense of having created a legal or financial relationship between the parts, but a declaration of intent with the aim to promote true relationships of mutual benefit. For that, it will be posed a monitoring committee for this compromise consisting on one representative for each one of the parts, named by the General Manager of Management, Evaluation, Research, Quality and Patient Attendance Service of the Health Department, the IBV Manager, the Vice-Prinicipal of Research, Innovation and Transfer from the UPV, and by the Vice-Principal of Research and Scientific Policy of the UVEG. This committee will carry out a balance of the actions taken or in course at least annually and will also make a report that will be told to the appropriate departments. The subscribed agreement will have validity untill the end of the relationship with the KIC-LE, for a maximum period of seven years. In case the InnoLIFE proposal is not chosen, this agreement will conclude its validity.
