The exhibition 'Archaeology: visions of the past thinking of the future' was inaugurated on Monday, 18 November, at the Museum of l' Almodí of Xàtiva, where it will remain until next 30 December. Organized by the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology, with the support of the Vice‐Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, the exhibition includes the University’s work in defence of the archaeological heritage.
The Vice‐Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, Jorge Hermosilla, and the City Councillor for Culture, Maria José Pla, inaugurated the 22 panels in the exhibition, accompanied by Valentín Villaverde and José Pérez Ballester (both from the Department of Archaeology of the University of Valencia).
The City Councillor said he was "very satisfied" with the outcome of this exhibition and appreciated the work done by the University of Valencia. The Vice‐Principal Jorge Hermosilla stressed the importance of disseminating University’s researches. "With his visit to Xàtiva, this exhibition starts its tour around Valencian municipalities, which enables professor’s researches leaving schools to reach the Valencian society", he said.
Nowadays the general knows better the fictional archaeology than the professional one, so that "we must reach the people and explain who we are, how we investigate and what we are focused on", Valentín Villaverde and José Pérez Ballester explained.
"It is vital the participation of those that even though are not specialists, are identified with their past and take pride in their archaeological heritage. Therefore, it is advisable to leave the classrooms and laboratories, to explain to the general public the state of the research, and listening to their interests and concerns, so that past and future, expanding horizons, become compatible", they said.
