The Botanic Garden’s exhibition hall hosted from yesterday, Thursday 4 at 20:00, the opening of the exhibition ‘Arte contra la pobreza’ (Art against poverty). This showing is organized by the Valencian Coordinator of Development Non-Governmental Organizations and the campaign Pobresa Zero. More than 30 Valencian artists are showing their works, whose sale will be consigned to charity purposes. During the opening, the works were presented and the choir of DIVISI’s music school did a performance.
According to the exhibition’s organizer Manolo Portolés, ‘we are the first generation ever to have the tools to stop poverty and hunger in the world, let’s achieve the Millennium Development Goals.’ These goals were established by the United Nations to get millions of people out of extreme poverty and social, cultural and educational conditions which should not be tolerated in the XXI century.
As a consequence, Alianza Española contra la Pobreza was created in our country and was materialized with the campaign Pobresa Zero in order to ‘raise public awareness and put governments and politicians under pressure to make them take the needed measures to reach the goals.’ Among the campaign’s activity is this exhibition which shows the artists’ commitment through their works.
Pobresa Zero wants to remind us that the economy and the resources are still a question of politics and interests, which are worsen because of the recession and the climatic change. The exhibition can be visited at the Botanic Garden from Monday to Friday (10-14:00 and 16-20:00). Entrance is free. All the artists involved have donated their works and are members of PROAVA, Promoción Agroalimentaria de Calidad de la Comunidad Valenciana, and the journal La Fénix Troyana.
