Coronavirus pandemic has not stopped the Natural History Museum of the Universitat de València (MUVHN) from continuing it educational activities. Quite the contrary, it has come up with even more new initiatives in which everyone can participate from home.
The director of the Natural History Museum of the Universitat de València, Anna García, explains that the declaration of the state of emergency in March and the massive isolation of the people in their homes to stop the spread of COVID-19 were not the reasons for the Museum to cease its activities.
“We have only changed the way in which we are with you,” affirms the director Anna García. She explains that via the website and social networks, the MUVHN has virtually opened the window on some of its extraordinary pieces of exhibition. Staying at home, we can learn more about meteorites, kryptonite, pangolin, and the fossil footprints of dinosaurs in a 3D format, which can also be downloaded.
On the other hand, as the name of this initiative suggests, Museu a Casa (Catalan for “Museum at home”) offers a number of entertaining and scientific activities which can be done from home. “We also want that you express your opinion to us, that you share your videos and photos of these activities with use, that you tell us what you feel about them,” adds the director.
The initiative Presenta'ns a la Teua Mascota! (Catalan for “Introduce us to your pet!”) has a similar theme: the users can learn more about our animals and, for instance, the period when a dog or a cat could be domesticated.
Anna García points out that all these initiatives have brought together the institution interns and the students following the course in Museology of the Master's Degree in Applied Paleontology. “The students are elaborating the activities online, continuing their internship remotely, to popularise everything the MUVHN has to offer and for you to stay in touch with the Museum,” specifies the director.
At last, the director Anna García concludes the video with the following words: “Even though we stay at home, you can follow us virtually; we will see each other soon at the Museum, but, for now, take care.”
