Marisa Gallén, current president of the Associació València Capital Mundial del Disseny and National Design Award 2019 granted by the Ministry for Science, Innovation and Universities; together with Isabel Rincón de Arellano, graphic designer and partner of Gallén, were the protagonists of a new edition of the cycle ‘Women of today’ organised by the Cañada Blanch Foundation and the Universitat de València in the Cultural Centre La Nau. The chosen place was the paraninfo, on Thursday 27 February, where they will explain how graphic design can be used as a motor of social change.

How has Valencia managed to be named World Design Capital 2022 by the World Design Organization? Which is the creative process in which these two women work together in Gallén+Ibáñez studio? Which challenges have they faced during their professional career? These will be some of the topics both experts will talk about. The moderator of the event will be Juan Viña, president of Cañada Blanch Foundation.

“A modern city is characterized by the personalities that represent it: its entrepreneurs, its artists, scientists and intellectuals and now, and increasingly, those devoted to design. In this sense, Marisa Gallén and Isabel Rincón de Arellano are excellent representatives of Valencia and it is because of this that Cañada Blanch Foundation wants to invest in their voices, as well as their perspectives,” appoints Viña. Moreover, the president of the entity is proud that this cycle that situates women as main protagonists and firmly promotes their trajectory.

What is Women of today?
In a society in which men, for the most part, occupy not only positions of responsibility but also round tables, debates and forums, the Cañada Blanch Foundation wants to balance this situation. Because of this, Women of today was born as an answer that puts women in the spotlight and defend their work through their speech and their works. The painter Paula Bonet and the writer Luna Miguel were in charge of opening this cycle last January in the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia, which will continue throughout the year.
