The journalist Ernest Ekaizer presents this Thursday 20 February in the Cultural Centre La Nau his last book: “Cataluña, año cero” (Espasa), in which he analyses thoroughly the process, trial and sentence of the “procés”. The presentation will take place in the Paraninfo (Main Hall) of the Universitat de València at 18:30, and apart from the author, the Vice-President of the Council of the Valencian government, Mónica Oltra, and the Vice-principal for Culture and Sports of the Universitat, Antonio Ariño. The entrance is free until complete capacity.

“Cataluña año cero” is an exhaustive and surprising account about the last period of the “procés”, from October 2017 to October 2019. It pays special attention to the trial against the pro-independence leaders and analyse thoroughly, step by step, what happened three days before to the failed unilateral declaration of independence of the 27-O, as well as the hours immediately after. In the more than 400 pages of the book, the readers discover some events that have not emerged into the public opinion until now and, thanks to the various sources and to the large amount of verified data offered by the author, they can understand in depth this key episode of our most current reality. “Cataluña año cero” collects and analyses the legal, political and intellectual debate between rebellion and sedition, and also reproduces the sentence, giving us all the tools to form an informed judgement.

Ernesto Ekaizer has a long career as a journalist. Born in Buenos Aires, where he started working in media such as the magazine Panorama or the journal La Opinión, he moved to Spain in the 80s, where he lives and works as a journalist ever since. He has been editor-in-chief of La Vanguardia in Madrid, columnist in Cambio 16, and subsequently subdirector of the magazine El Globo and director of the economic journal Cinco días. In 1998 he started working for El País, initially as a special envoy to cover events relating to the Pinochet case, about which he published the book “Yo, Augusto” in 2003. Precisely for his research on the Pinochet case he was awarded the Ortega y Gasset Prize in 2000. Likewise, he assiduously participates since two decades in journalistic get-togethers of radio and television, and he currently collaborates in Cadena Ser, RAC1 and the journal Ara as an analyst of the political reality and expert in courts.

Before the “procés”, Ekaizer has profoundly investigated and thoroughly analysed essential leading figures and events for the understanding of our recent history such as José María Ruiz Mateos (in “José María Ruiz Mateos, el último magnate”, 1985), the aforementioned Pinochet (in “Yo, Augusto”, 2003), Mario Conde (in “Sed de poder. La verdadera historia de Mario Conde”, 2012), Luis Bárcenas (in “El caso Bárcenas”, 2013 and “Queríamos tanto a Luis”, 2015), the financial crisis that exploded in 2008 (in “Indecentes. Crónica de un atraco perfecto”, 2012) or the Spanish bank rescue, on what he based his previous work: the popular “El libro negro: La crisis de Bankia y Las Cajas. Cómo falló el Banco de España a los ciudadanos”, which was also presented in the Cultural Centre La Nau by the end of 2018.
