
Full Professor of International Public Law of the Universitat de València Jorge Cardona will be appointed honorary member of the Universidad de Vigo-Ourense. The event will take place on Friday, 14 June at 6:30pm in the Politécnico building of the Ourense Campus.
Cardona will be made an honorary member of the Senate of the Faculty of Law of the Universidad de Vigo-Ourense, at the request of Professor Belén Sánchez Ramos, who will deliver the laudatio speech on behalf of the Department of Public International Law.
Jorge Cardona Llorens (Valencia, 1957) received the Extraordinary Undergraduate Award in 1980 and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 1984 by the Universitat de València. Professor of Public International Law in the universities of València (1980-1984; 1985-1995; and since 2008), Alacant (1984-1985) and Jaume I of Castelló (1995-2008), Jorge Cardona is member of the Institute of International Law (IDI), an organisation founded in 1873 devoted to the development of international law. He is also a member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
Cardona has led the Department of International Law of the Bancaja International Centre for Peace and Development. Head of the Henri Rolin Chair at the Université catholique de Louvain and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2009), and the Jean Monnet Chair.
He has also chaired the Mediterranean Institute of European Studies, the Centre for the Study of International Law and Relations, the UN Depositary Library of the UV, or the UNHCR Refugee Observatory in Valencia, among others.
Cardona has been a guest lecturer at universities in Europe, America and Africa. He is the author of over 100 publications on international law, in particular on treaties, international responsibility, international organisations, human rights and the maintenance of international peace and security.
