The journalist Ignacio Cembrero analyses in two sessions of a seminar the situation of Muslim in Spain and Europe, as well as the fight for human rights in the Maghreb. The seminar is organised by the Institute of Human Rights of the Universitat de València (IDH-UV) within the Master’s Degree and Doctoral Studies programmes in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice. The conferences are opened to the public. They will take place on Tuesday 6 of March at 4.30 p.m. (Room 4-P12) and Tuesday 27 of March at 4 p.m. (Room 1-P20) of the Faculty of Law.
Ignacio Cembrero has been working as a journalist for El País for over 30 years and El Mundo for a short period of time. He has been a correspondent of El País in the Middle East, the Maghreb and Brussels. He was in charge for a few years of monitoring the Spanish Foreign Policy. He stopped his journalist career for a while to coordinate Meda Democracy, a programme of the European Commission to support the civil society in the southern shore of the Mediterranean. He studied at the Paris Institute of Political Studies and the National Science Foundation. He wrote La España de Alá and Vecinos alejados. This last book addresses the strained relationships between Spain and Morocco. He has obtained several awards. The last one he received was given by the Club Internacional de Prensa in the category of best correspondent.
The Master’s Degree and Doctoral Programme in Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice of the Universitat de València has received the Mention of Excellency of the Ministry of Education. This Mention has been given to only 8 Master’s degree of the legal field in Spain. It is led by professors Cristina García Pascual and Rosario Serra.
The Institute of Human Rights of the Universitat de València (IDH-UV) started in 2018 a wide programme of activities coinciding with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This Institute was founded in 2005. It participates in the project Consolider, in which 12 groups of research of different Spanish universities take part. The project is coordinated by the Bartolomé de las Casas Institute of Human Rights of the Carlos III University of Madrid.
