The Observatorio IUNE, which analyses the academic and research activity of the public and private Spanish universities, highlights that the Universitat de València (UV) has increased the number of citations of articles from their teaching staff a 6,72% between 2024 and 2025, so it has gone from 983.450 references to 1.049.592, which means 66.142 more citations. As for the number of publications, the institution has reached 39.361 in the 2025 edition, compared to the 38.035 in 2024.
With this data, the Universitat de València keeps their third Spanish position in the number of scientific citations in the last three years, and the forth in the number of scientific publications. Furthermore, it continues, as it happened in the last nine editions of the ranking, as first centre of higher education in the Valencian Community.
El Observatorio IUNE uses indicators about teacher staff, recognition, scientific activity, innovation, competitiveness, funding and training ability. The included data in each update is extracted from the platform Web of Science, and they collect a whole decade, that way in the update of 2025 the data corresponds to the 2014-2023 period and has included 84 public and private Spanish universities.
In absolute terms, from all the publications done by the Universitat de València, 21.212 are included in the first quartile, compared to the 20.168 in the 2024 data. The number of publications in international collaboration has also incremented, from a 19.801 to a 20.859. An indicator that greatly increases, as it did in the last edition, is the number of citations per professor from the institution, that in the monitoring centre edition of 2025 reaches 47,9, per 45,32 in 2024 and 40,85 in 2023.
El Observatorio IUNE, among other indicators, also offers results per areas, both for the number of publications and the number of citations. This way, per number of citations, the academic institution is the first of the Valencian Community in five of the six knowledge areas, and to the Spanish scale it keeps the third position in Medicine and Pharmacology and also in Experimental, position in which it has improved compared to the last years, where it kept the forth position in Spain. In forth position are Social Sciences and Life Sciences to a State Level.
Globally, in all the areas the number of citations has advanced notoriously, specially in Medicine and Pharmacology (from 347.903 to 373.245 references), Experimental (from 453.084 in 2024 to 482.659 in 2025), in Engineering, Architecture and Computational Cosmology (CC) (from 144.506 in 2024 to 156.168 in 2025) or in Social Sciences (from 76.602 in 2024 to 85.598 in 2025).
For the number of publications, the Universitat de València keeps its post as first Valencian centre of superior education in 5 of the analysed areas: Medicine and Pharmacology (forth of Spain), Social Sciences (second of Spain), Life Sciences (fourth of Spain), Arts and Humanities (fifth of Spain) and Experimental (sixth of Spain).
The Observatorio IUNE is a result of the work done by a group of researchers part of the universities that integrate the "Alianza 4U": University Carlos III of Madrid, Autonomous University of Madrid, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and University Pompeu Fabra.
