Bike touring

Uvsports and Uvsustainability, with the collaboration of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences, have organised the course “Bicycle: transport, health and spare time”, addressed for the UV university community.

The bike touring course will take place from the 24th February to the 26th May. It consists on a total of 30 hours, divided in theoretical-practical sessions and in bike trips.

Theory will be taught in 4 sessions, on Friday from 15:30 to 17:30 hours. The theory will cover the choice of the most appropriate bicycle, reshaping, essential mechanics, basic equipment, safety regulations and traffic, digital technology, route planning, etc.

Trips will have a duration of three hours, and destinations will be Turia gardens, the Saler, the Vía Xurra, the Turia river park, the Barranc of Carcaixent, the Valencia city by cycle paths and the Palmar.

The director of the course is Cruz Pérez Pérez, member of the UV cyclist group and lecturer of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences. The program was organised with the aim of achieving that the UV staff and students learn to use the bicycle following the traffic rules and recommendations; with the objective of helping to create a more sustainable city and passing on good practices on the road.

The bike touring course intends that users acquire the abilities for choosing an appropriate bicycle for the use they are going to give them, as well as study in more detail the new technologies applied in bicycles and, ultimately, to become fit by doing trips around Valencia and the natural parks that surround it.

The enrolment is already open, the capacity is limited for 30 persons for the theoretical-practical sessions, but only 15 will be able to take part in each trip. The priority will be in order of registration. The 15 first can choose doing all the trips or just some of them. In this way, vacancies are filled by order of registration.

The “Healthy University” program

The bike touring course is part of the ‘Healthy University’ program, organised by  UVsustainability and UVsports. This program includes two more activities addressed to the UV university community.

The Health School in the workplace, which teaches techniques for improving the postural health in the workplace. It is addressed to all the staff of the Universitat with the aim of improving their physical condition individually, taking into consideration their health conditions.

This activity takes place before the start of the workday, from 7:45 to 8:30 hours. It is free and does not require previous registration. It is given by the teaching staff of the Faculty of Physiotherapy one day per week in each campus: Mondays on the lobby of the Departmental Building of the Faculty of Economics, Tuesdays on the 3rd floor of the Principal Building, and Thursdays in the Faculty of Pharmacy (in front of the Darwing room).

UVSustainability Runners is another of the healthy activities that aims to enhance the participation and promotion of this physical and sport activity between colleagues. It is principally addressed to the UV staff and consists on free trainings ran by a lecturer of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences two days per week, in the Tarongers and Blasco Ibañez Campus, in order to prepare properly the participation in the popular races circuit of València.

Trainings take place in the sports facilities of the UV, on Monday (from 17:00 to 18:00 hours in Tarongers), and on Wednesdays (from 14:30 to 15:30 hours in Blasco Ibañez). Previous enrolment is required.
