Clinical specialists and experts in translational research in the field of liver and digestive diseases meet on October 7 and 8 at the ‘International Workshop on Liver and Gut Fibrosis’. The aim is to discuss the molecular mechanisms involved in intestinal and liver fibrosis. Organised by the University of Valencia, the meeting will take place at the ADEIT facilities.

Fibrosis is a global problem characterised by excessive growth of fibrous tissue, caused by chronic inflammation, and by processes of repair and remodelling of altered tissues. It occurs in different organs, including the lungs, kidneys, liver, and intestines, and is a key component of important pathologies such as cystic fibrosis, Crohn’s disease, or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, closely related to being overweight.

Despite the great advances made by research in recent years, the molecular mechanisms involved in the development of fibrosis are not yet clear, and there are few effective therapeutic options available.

Organised by the Digestive and Inflammatory Pharmacology Unit of the University of Valencia, at the Faculty of Medicine, the workshop will put on the table the knowledge about the molecular mechanisms involved in intestinal and liver fibrosis, fundamental in the evolution of such pathologies. prevalent such as inflammatory bowel disease or chronic liver disease. The meeting will also discuss the development of new strategies to improve the quality of life of those affected.

The conference is sponsored by the Centre for Biomedical Research in the Network of Liver and Digestive Diseases (CIBEREHD) and the FISABIO Foundation.
