Professor of Applied Economics of the Universitat de València and CIRIEC-Spain Director José Luis Monzón Campos will receive the Cooperative Trajectory Award in the thirteenth edition of the Pepe Miquel Awards of Valencian Cooperativeness, in recognition of its work in promoting and stimulating this business model.

José Luis Monzón is a researcher at IUDESCOOP (University Institute on Social and Cooperative  Economics) and directed this research centre between 2016 and 2019. Its current director, Professor María José Vañó, has shown her “pride and satisfaction for this well-deserved award”.

These prizes are called by the Confederació de Cooperatives de la Comunitat Valenciana (Concoval) in two categories: Cooperative Trajectory and Responsible Communication.  The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in the first two weeks of March in València.

The jury unanimously decided to give this award to Professor Monzón, “as an undeniable reference point at the head of academic research on cooperativeness in Europe and as the main agent for the creation in València of an internationally recognised research centre in this field”. In addition, the jury valued “the trajectory of a person committed to the values of cooperativeness, to the service of which he has generously put his intellectual talent and to whose business reality in the Comunitat Valenciana has always been closely connected”.

José Luis Monzón is director of CIRIEC-Spain, an entity of which he was president from its constitution until 2015 and whose Scientific Committee he currently presides. He is also the only Spanish to have chaired CIRIEC-International.

With Professor Monzón, four Pepe Miquel Awards have been given to CIRIEC-Spain. The first two to the Journalistic Work, in 2007 to the magazine Noticias del CIDEC, which was then directed by Professor José Galán. And, in 2011, to the journalist José Juan Cabezuelo, head of Communication of CIRIEC-Spain and coordinator of its news services. The next two awards for CIRIEC were for the Cooperative Trajectory, the first in 2016 to Professor Juan Juliá, and now in 2019 to Professor José Luis Monzón.
