The University of Seville is, one more year, in charge of hosting the Basketball University Spanish Championship, which takes place from 25 to 28 April and in which the Universitat de València participates after having won the regional championship in the CADU on the month of March.

The coach, Pau Gaya, thinks that the Championship “is a competition that excite us a lot, both to coaches and players. After winning the CADU in a very narrow final, the prize of being able of competing with the best is really motivating. On last year we got a bronze medal and this year the generalised feeling is that we have to try and give one more jump. The team arrives to this championship in a very good shape, eagerly and with a high competition level, thanks to the fact that all the players are members of the front-line clubs of the Community.”

Regarding the members of the team, Gaya says that “even though several players that came with us to the CEU`15 and who were very important are not in the team now, it is true that we have several young incorporations with enormous talent that, we hope, are going to give to the team the quality it has had during the last years.”

The competition is organised in two groups that play a league phase in which participate four teams (eight in total) and whose winners go directly to dispute the final of the Championship. After the calendar draw, the Universitat de València has been put “with the San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), the University of Córdoba (champion of Andalusia) and the University of Salamanca. Evidently is not an easy group, but I think that my team is really talented, has great quality and is willing to improve the success they had on last year. Without doubt we will fight each game. So we hope that in Seville, a city where the CEU was already disputed on last year with a great organisation, we can enjoy, get sports successes and let the name of the Universitat de València in a high place.”
