For the first time in his life, Daniel Blake, who suffers from heart trouble and is an English 59 year old carpenter, sees himself forced to resort to social assistance. In the course of his appointments at the unemployment office, Daniel meets Katie, a single mother who has two children and had to accept a lodging which is 450km from her city in order to not being sent to a foster home. They are both prisoners of the current administrative abominations of Great Britain, so Daniel and Katie will try to help each other.
