The football teams of the Universitat de València dispute between 9 and 13 May the seven-a-side football University Spanish Championship, which takes place in Almería.

The women’s seven-a-side football team coached by José Andrés Menchero goes to the event with the champion title from the last academic year. The team “faces the Championship with excitement and the objective of trying to revalidate the title. We know and are aware that the level is increasing and that the competence of the rivals is really high. Thus, we go to Almería knowing that we’ll have to dispute each game as they were a final, since the margin of error is so small that we cannot allow to fail in any game”, says the coach.

Regarding to how the team arrives, Menchero adds that “it seems simple, but getting to participate in this University Spanish Championship we had to pass an Autonomic Championship of University Sports where the competitiveness has been really really high and where the team has performed at an excellent level. Now we take the next step, the CEU, with the motivation of becoming one more time the best university Spanish team and with the ambition of getting one more time the pass to the European Championship, all of that with humility and, of course, with respect to every rival that I’m sure they’re going to make things hard for us.”

For its part, the men’s team of eleven-a-side football goes to the national event after getting the classification in a heart-stopping final of the Autonomic Championship of University Sports, in which Vicente Amposta and Xavi Planes had to reach the penalty stage. The team goes to the national event with excitement and the objective of getting the classification to fight for the medals.
