University European taekwondo Championship

The taekwondo team competes Croatia for the European Champioship.

 

The taekwondo team of the University will compete next week for the fourth edition of the Taekwondo University European Championship, which will be celebrated in Opatija (Croatia) from 10 to 13 of November.

The team of the University comes to this event after winning 6 medals in the national championship celebrated in April, where it get the podium to collect 6 bronze medals thanks to the good work of every team member.

The expedition who will travel to Croatia is composed by Álex Cabeza, who won the individual and team gold medals in the university national championship in 2014 and the bronze medal this year, an athlete with international experience that also participated in the university world championship of the last year; Víctor Mejías, he won the individual and team bronze medals in 2014 and the bronze medal in 2015; Fany Almela, who won the bronze medal in the last university European championship (2013), the team gold medal in the national championship in 2014 and the bronze medal in this year; and María Cervera, who won the individual bronze medal and the team gold medal in the Spain championship of 2015. The manager Karina Dos Santos, Beatriz Bernabéu as the coach and physiotherapist and Amparo Dols as the team delegate will accompany the team.

For Karina Dos Santos, manager of the taekwondo team, “the team is facing the championship very positively; they are excited to represent the University in this university European championship. They are training with a lot enthusiasm and intensity”. Regarding the competition and the results, the manager seems cautious, “there are some athletes that can obtain the medal but we will only know that once we arrive to Croatia and see the draw. The university taekwondo level in Europe is high, so our athletes will have a good chance to compete and fight for the podium with the best ones”.

As in past university sporting events, the Physical Education and Sports Service will offer live coverage of the taekwondo team through its web (www.uv.es/sef) and its official social networks (Twitter: @sefuv and www.facebook.com/SEFUV) where it will offer to the followers instant information about the results of the combats, feelings and statements of the participants.
