More than 80 athletes will go on Friday to the athletics track of the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló to compete in the University Regional Sports Championship of Athletics on Friday from 17:30 to 21:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00.

The team headed by Rubén Picazo will compete in 13 races, “this year we join the CADU with the most numerous team, a very complete team with representatives in every athletic discipline”. Picazo considers that this is “team with guarantees, almost 40 of the athletes with the minimum level required to participate in the Spain championships, most of them are in the base period, as the indoor season finished few weeks ago and due to this it is possible we don’t see great results yet, from our athletes as well as from the representatives of other universities”.

Regarding the medal possibilities, the coach highlighted some athletes according their discipline: Adrián López (speed); in middle-distance, Nacho Giménez, Carla Masip and Neus Quiñonero; in long-distance, Lidia Hernández, Andrea Salvador and Sergi Guemes; in hurdling, Borja Añon, Álvaro Villanueva and Paula Fuertes; in steeplechase, Iván Muñoz and Nadia Aguilar; in throws, Javier Escrivá and Alba Almenar (shot put), Roxana Martínez (discus), Ana Polo (hammer) and Héctor Cabrera (javelin); regarding the jumps, Álvaro Martínez, Adrián Sobrino and Belén Simarro (high jump), Manel Miralles (pole vault), Andrea Salvador (triple jump) and in race-walking we have to mention Pau Tormo. As well as some outstanding 4x100 and 4x400 metres relay races.

Regarding the expected results, the coach considers that “we whave been the CADU leaders in the last events, so I assume we are the favourites to in in the classification per teams, but for me this is something secondary, the main objective is that all these athletes have a great good initial contact with the outdoor season and can reach the expected marks”.
