The team of cross country running of the Universitat de València opens on Sunday the University Spanish Championship (CEU) of the current academic year. The team run by Rubén Picazo comes to the national event one week after being proclaimed regional champion at the CADU that took place at the university campus of the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón.

The delegation of the Universitat de València will go to Burgos on Saturday so that the seven athletes that will participate in the national championship get accredited: Alberto López, Nacho Giménez, Albert Sangil and Iván Muños in men’s category and Andrea Abad, Lidia Hernández and Nadia Aguilar in women’s category.

Rubén Picazo, coach of the cross country running team, analyses the previous round of the championship “The athletes of men’s categories already showed in the CADU that they are in a sensational shape and I think they have options to fight to win the medals, despite very competitive teams from the rest of universities will also compete. It will be a very open competition in which we hope our teams do well. On the other side, in the women’s team we present a very young team with rookie athletes in championships in Spain and despite not being the favourite ones I think they can play a great part although it is hard to get the medal. I think it is a team that will give great athletes in future competitions.”

The team of the Universitat de València will meet in Burgos a hard circuit (5,000 metres in women’s category and 8,000 metres in men’s category), with low temperatures that are expected to round 0ºC during the competition time. Furthermore, it is a region of great tradition in cross country running, which organises competitions as the mythic Atapuerca’s Cross considered one of the best competitions in the world, without doubt one of the best scenes for a exam of this level.
