Workshop about european Multilingualisme and Linguistic Diversity Management at European Union
Even if Europe is not one of the world’s most linguistically diverse areas, there are more than 200 spoken languages. Furthermore, the variety of sociolinguistic situations and language policies given in the various member states is huge. On the other hand, the European integration process has highlighted the need of managing the linguistic diversity and, in short, of promoting both the individual and collective multilingualism.
In this context, from Nexo Foundation and Maurits Coppieters Centre we want to spread, with this Workshop, the value of multilingualism and the linguistic diversity in the current societies of the European Union. In this session we will reflect about key concepts in multilingual contexts, such as the official status of languages, linguistic rights or linguistic security and we will deepen in how Europe, and specially the European Union have managed, from the legal and sociolinguistic point of view, the multilingualism, particularly in the case of less used or minority languages.
Therefore, it is an excellent forum for students, researchers and professionals that, from different specialisation areas, are interested in the management of the multilingualism.
