‘Nosaltres, els valencians’, 50th anniversary’s celebrations yesterday

The Universitat de València’s chair Joan Fuster has organized some activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the publication of ‘Nosaltres, els valencians’, which was written by the author Joan Fuster. The first activity is a round table titled ‘50 años de Nosaltres, els valencians (1962-2012)’ which took place yesterday, February 16th at 18:00, in La Nau’s Aula Magna. The exhibition ‘Joan Fuster. Nosaltres, els valencians (1962-2012)’ was opened yesterday as well in La Nau’s Sala Thesaurus at 20:00.

The participants in the round table were Joaquim Molas (full professor in literature at Universitat de Barcelona); Francesc de Paula Burguera (journalist and writer); Vicent Pitarch (linguist and miember of Institut d’Estudis Catalans); and Antoni Furió (full professor in history at Universitat de València). The round table was chaired by Ferran Carbó (coordinator of the chair Joan Fuster).

After the round table, the opening of the exhibition Joan Fuster. Nosaltres, els valencians. 1962-2012 took place at 20:00 in La Nau’s Sala Estudi General. This exhibition is organized by the Universitat de València’s office of the Vice-principal for culture and the chair Joan Fuster. The showing can be visited until March 18th.

On February 29th at 19:30, the concert Música a l’entorn de Joan Fuster is going to be held in La Nau’s Capella. Maria de los Llanos, soprano, and Adrià Gràcia, pianist, are the interpreters. The music programme includes music for poems by Apel•les Mestres, Xavier Casp, Bernat Artola, Maria Antònia Salvà, Miquel Duran, Lluís Guarner, Francesc Almela i Vives and Joan Fuster.

On March 1st at 12:00, the prizes XI Premis de la Crítica del Institut Interuniversitari de Filologia Valenciana are going to be awarded in La Nau’s Paraninfo. A lecture by Jaume Cabré (La creació del món) is taking place as well.

The last event scheduled, on November 15th at 9:30, is the conference IX Jornada Joan Fuster: Sobre Nosaltres, els valencians, to be celebrated in Sueca’s Casa de la Cultura and organized by the chair Joan Fuster and the town council of Sueca. Agustí Colomines, María José Badenas, Francesc Pérez i Moragón, Manuel Alcaraz and Ferran Archilés will participate.

Joan Fuster i Ortells (1922-1992) is the most relevant contemporary Valencian intellectual. He had a degree in law by Universitat de València, he carried out an important humanistic task. The first publication of Nosaltres, els valencians is dated 1962 in Barcelona. This work has been a referent for later studies and ideological positions.
