The Openining Ceremony for the Master’s Degree in Criminal Safeguards and Socio-Economics Crimes will take place on Tuesday 8 January 2019. It will have an opening conference titled “Culpabilidad” (Guilt) by Tomás S. Vives Antón, full university professor in Criminal Law (retired) and emeritus vice chairman of the Constitutional Court. 

The opening ceremony will take place at the hall that holds the same name of the lecturer himself, at 18.00h; ti will count on the presence of Javier Palao Gil, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and also José González Cussac and Margarita Roig Torres, full university professor and professor of Criminal Law, directors of this new Master’s Degree and members of the University Institute of Criminology and Criminal Sciences of the UV.  

Tomás S. Vives Antón graduated in Law at the Complutense University of Madrid and he joined the State Attorneys beggining 1966. Afterwards he continued his academic career and graduated in Criminology in 1971 (València) and did a doctoral programme in Law at the Universitat de València; his thesis was titled “La regulación de la autoría en los delitos cometidos por medio de imprenta” (Perpetrators Regulation in Printing Crimes), which received the Doctoral Studies Special Award.

He was Vice-principal of the Universitat de València between 1980 and 1981, both included. In 1985 he received the Chair of Criminal Law of the Universitat de València. Once he had achieved this, he spent several research stays, one of them in Germany, where he took part in several seminars coordinated by Professor Habermas. 

In 1990 he was named spokesperson of the General Council of the Judiciary, position that he held until 1995, when he was named Judge of the Constitutional Court. After all that he was named vice-chairman of said Court, position that he held until 2004. Thereafter he came back to the Universitat de València and became full university professor in Criminal Law.
