The Universitat de València has launched a volunteering programme with the purpose of supporting the areas affected by the torrential rains caused by the DANA (Isolated High Level Depresion). This project provides bus transport for volunteers who want to contribute to the clean-up and relief tasks, especially in municipalities with major damage., specially to those towns particularly damaged. Volunteers are assigned to the activities that are a priority on the given day, in coordination with municipalities and other organisations involved in the emergency response.
To ensure safety and good management of resources, the UV has included a coordinator in each bus who supervises the activity of the volunteers and facilitates communication with the local authorities to adapt the tasks according to the needs of the moment. This structure is essential, as the situation in these municipalities is very dynamic and priorities can vary from one day to the next based on different conditions.
During the week of 28 October to 3 November we have offered 550 posts for volunteers who have gone to Albal, Benetússer, Parc Alcosa, Catarroja and Algemesí.
