To face the crisis of coronavirus and maintain the university services, the Administration and Services Staff (PAS) and the Teaching and Research Staff (UPD) of the Universitat de València stay on duty to continue offering their services and resources in a remote mode.

In the course of the crisis, the principal of the Universitat de València, M.ª Vicenta Mestre, states tha “the most important things that we should care about are the people, their health and training, as well as scientific research; the university activities must continue along with other supporting services.”

One of the people who fulfils this assertion of the principal is a microbiologist, doctor, and professor of the Universitat de València and a director of the Master’s Degree in Research in Molecular, Cellular and Genetics BiologySergi Maicas. These weeks, Maicas works from home to continue offering the training for the students using online methodologies and work tools offered by the university: “given the current crisis of coronavirus, I have decided to stay at home and work from here. For this, I am using the corporate tools available for the professors, such as cloud services and the tools of Blackboard or Zoom to contact my colleagues and the Master students.”

Maicas knows that the experts recommend to stay emotionally stable and collaborate with the family members while confined at home: “in my personal life, I am confined at home but try to overcome the situation in the best possible way. I try to help my daughters with anything they need to continue their school studies as well as at the Universitat.”

In addition, the professor Maicas wanted to call the people to use common sense while facing the crisis of coronavirus: “I would like to appeal to everyone because we stay at home to make this crisis cause as little damage as possible for our society.”

Once again, the professors of the Universitat de València are credited for their social and collaborative efforts, just like the words of Dr. Maicas show: “At last, I want to encourage everyone who is working from home and trying to put their best efforts into it. Stay strong to come back - come back to work in an even better way.”
