Built around the middle of the 17th century and rebuilt in the 18th century by Felip Rubio, underwent major renovations in 1869 by the architect Sebastià Monleon y Estellés. The Academic Theatre or “Paraninfo” is going to be the normal framework of the meetings of the Faculty and solemn debates in Latin from two of their chairs. The main ornament is the series of paintings with the images of the distinguished characters linked with the university body.

In the 17th and 18th centuries students played classical comedies in Latin and Greek in order to acquire skills in the use of these two academic languages. It has been marked with historical events and it is currently devoted to solemn academic sessions, among which stands out the annual opening of the academic year.
