This procedure allows you to change the research area to which a doctoral thesis is linked.
Each doctoral programme is organised into different research areas. Thesis supervisors are authorised to supervise theses only within those areas to which they are officially affiliated.
No. Each doctoral thesis must be linked exclusively to a single research area within the doctoral programme.
In order to authorise a change of research area:
- the thesis supervisor must be affiliated with the new research area to which the thesis is to be linked.
- the request must be duly justified.
The Academic Committee of the PhD Programme is the body responsible for approving changes to the research focus.
Changes can be requested at any time during the PhD programme.
However, the change must be justified and, as a general rule, changes are not permitted during the final year of the PhD programme.
Once the amendment has been approved, the Academic Committee will notify the Doctoral School, which will incorporate the change into the doctoral student’s academic record.
To this end, the Academic Committee must:
- Complete the form available on the Doctoral School’s website: Administrative information > Guides and forms > Forms for administrative procedures > Change of research area.
- Have the document signed by the coordinator of the Doctoral Programme.
- Send the authorisation document for the change of research area via the internal courier service within the Doctoral School
The Academic Committee must submit the documentation via the University of Valencia’s electronic document management system, selecting:
- Recipient:
Internal unit → Centres → Doctoral School
- Recipient group:
Assignment or change of supervisor, director and research are.
