What is it about?

This procedure allows doctoral students to notify the Doctoral School of the start and end of a situation that entitles them to an interruption in the calculation of the maximum duration of their doctoral studies.

The following situations entitle students to this interruption, in accordance with Article 3.5 of Royal Decree 99/2011 and current regulations:

  •  temporary incapacity,
  • birth
  • adoption,
  • foster care for the purposes of adoption,
  • foster care,
  • risk during pregnancy
  • risk during breastfeeding,
  • gender-based violence,
  • any other situation provided for in the applicable regulations
What are its effects?

The granting of an interruption entails the following effects:

  • The calculation of the maximum duration of the doctoral studies is suspended.
  • During this period, the student's access to RAPID is blocked.
  • Neither the research plan nor the activities document can be assessed.
  • Neither the recognition of activities nor the deposit of the doctoral thesis can be requested while the interruption is in effect.
  • The status of temporary incapacity or maternity or paternity leave does not exempt payment of the tuition fees for the academic year in which the student is enrolled, except in cases where the leave extends beyond one academic year.
  • The Doctoral School informs the CAPD of the doctoral student's situation

Procedure description

  •  Once the situation has ended, they must report the return to work through the same procedure and submit the relevant documentation.
