SANDACH is the Spanish acronym for Animal By-Products Not Aimed for Human Consumption.

At the UV, the term is used to refer to non-infectious remains of animals like dolphins, turtles, or pigs. SANDACH are not considered as remains but as by-products. Those have a specific legislation and must be handled in a special way.

The two centres of the Universitat which produce SANDACH are the following:

- Cavanilles Institute

- UCIM Animal Lab

When managing the animal by-product generated, it is placed in a container and the management company collects it to give it the treatment established by law according to the category of the by-product. In the case of the University, the by-products generated are Category 1. The treatment they receive consists of disinfection or sterilisation by means of an autoclave and subsequent grinding so that they can be eliminated in controlled facilities.
