  • Quality and Methodology in Laboratories

Development, technic and researching assessment on: data analysis, regression and uni-, bi- and multi- variate quality controls. Production application (ISO norm 17025) and chemical and biomedical research.

Added to the classical statistics analysis (univariate, i.e. comparison test, ANOVA, bivariate, i.e. lineal regression, weighing, polynomial multivariate analysis covers a group of statistics techniques which allow to extract information or create models with systems with diverse variables or multicomponent problems. The development of new instrumentation and control strategies and the capacity of storing and processing highly dated series has allowed the incorporation of these techniques to the resolution of data exploration problems (factor studies, factor control, object-variable relations, etc.) classifications (groupings) and regressions (models, calibrations, non-lineal regression) , and also R&S (multivariate optimization, anticipation via simulation). Additionally, these tools are easily adaptable to quality control problems and processes (control graphs with one or more variables, error detection on sensors), dynamic prediction (temporal series, input/output models), multivariate calibration (regression for minimum PLS partial squares, multi component analysis, calibration transference between instruments, non-lineal neuronal network regression), relationships structure-activity-retention (QSAR), etc.

  • I+D (bio)analytical methods

To carry out analysis and new strategies in sample treatment we have recently participated in the development of profitable methods able to quickly simplify and gain classical strategies. For example, a unique extraction system for additives (colorants) which reduces the number of control analysis to half as it retrieves all analytes of interest in one only fraction (and not in two as it was previously done).

  • Environmental samples analysis

Health and environment risks of emerging pollutants are evaluated; specifically, enantiomers of chiral pollutants, of which there is few information. Concretely the degree of enantioselective biodegradation that chiral pollutants suffer in sewage waters after their purification process are evaluated, for which they use activated lodes as bioreactors. Due to the fact that environmental research has underestimated the differential (eco)toxicity of enantiomers and very few information is available on enantioselective degradation. It can be affirmed that an incorrect evaluation of the environmental and sanitary risks currently exists related to sewage water processing. The studies will be mainly centred in chiral drugs with elevated human consumption (anti-inflammatories, analgesics, antidepressants, sedatives, antiepileptic) cardiovascular drugs (i.e. β-blockers), cytostatic (very toxic and with low degradation) and chiral pesticides included in the priority lists.

  • Bioactive molecules analysis

An analysis of the enantiomers’ behaviour of certain drugs in the union to plasma proteins is carried out as they play an important role in the development of new drugs and formulas as well as researches on bio-availability and metabolism.

  • Molecular and computing bio-interaction

Molecular coupling studies are carried out in a way they reveal the data at a molecular level and forces associated with affinity / enantioselectivity.

  • Multivariate Analysis and regression

Ceramics and Foundry: creation and research

Main researcher: Carmen Marcos Martínez

  • Ceramics and Foundry: creation and research

The general line of research is sculpture, with special emphasis on the processes, materials and techniques involved. The artistic foundry occupies the center of interest, as a teaching and research specialty. Thus, ceramics take on a central role, as the leading material in refractory molding processes in artistic foundry. It is about building bridges between Science and Art, looking for ways of interrelation.

Principal Investigator of PAID-06-08-3204 (2008-2010) granted by the UPV, entitled “Bronze Structure in the 21st century: creation and research”, which involved the assignment of a research fellow.

As results of this Research Project, the articles presented to the II National Congress of Researchers in Artistic Casting (Book of Minutes, ISBN: 978-84-8363-514-8) and the book Carmen Marcos stand out. Sculptures 2006-2012 (UPV, 2012. ISBN: 978-84-8363-987-0)
