Carmen Azcárraga is Tenured professor of Private International Law at the Department of International Law "Adolfo Miaja de la Muela" of the Universitat de València, of which she has been a member since 2003. She obtained her Law Degree in 2002 with the Extraordinary Degree Award and has been a Doctor in Law (Excellent Cum Laude) since 2007. She also holds a degree in Translation and Interpreting from the Universitat de València, which she obtained in 2013.

Her main lines of research cover topics related to international successions, international family law, alternative dispute resolution systems, foreigners and international recognition of decisions. These and other subjects have been addressed during research stays at prestigious institutions such as the Institut Suisse de droit comparé (Lausanne, Switzerland), the University of Harvard (MA, USA), the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (London, UK), Willamette University (OR, USA), the Institut d'Études Européennes de l'Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium), the Universitat de Barcelona and the Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal).

She has also carried out teaching stays at European universities (University of Örebro, Sweden; Freie Universität Berlin, Germany; Université Toulouse 1 Capitole, France; Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Italy) and Latin American universities (among others, Universidad del Externado de Bogotá, Colombia; Universidad Gabriel René Moreno de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia; and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de León, Nicaragua). She has been invited to lecture at leading research centres such as the Max Planck Institute of Procedural Law in Luxembourg and participated in 2007 in various tasks within the framework of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (Netherlands).  

In terms of university management, she has been a member of various CATs since 2011, coordinator of the area of private international law at the UV (2013-2017), mobility coordinator (Erasmus, PI and SICUE) of the undergraduate degree in ADE/Law and SICUE of the undergraduate degree in Law (2014-2018) and academic coordinator of the Programme for Postgraduates in European Private Law (PEPP; 2014-2018) and the double degree in Law with the University of Toulouse 1 Capitole (2015-2018).
