Description and characteristics

This interuniversity Master’s Degree of the UV and the Universitat Jaume I is connected to the Doctoral studies in History of Art with a Quality Award and an Excellence Award. It is addressed to university graduates who are interested in orientating or improving their academic and research education in visual arts, specially, in the Valencian, Spanish and Latin-American context. It is aimed to deepen on the state of the question of the art history thought with its more recent contribution, to deepen in the comprehension of the connection between artistic phenomena and in the different fields of culture, as well as to acquire a practice knowledge of the methods and technics of research applied to History of Art.

It mainly provides research training for graduates in History of Art, History and Heritage, History, Fine Arts and Communication Studies, as well as other disciplines in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is also oriented to the ambit of active professionals of art and culture, regardless of their previous university education, as long as a relationship of curricular, professional or research similarity exists within the subjects that make up this Master’s Degree.

The research and academic education of this Master’s Degree leads to the Doctoral studies in History of Art of both universities, distinguished with an Excellence Award in the academic years 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 by ANECA.

Lectures are taught in Spanish in the classrooms of the Faculty of Geography and History (Blasco Ibáñez, 28, Av. 46010 Valencia) of the University of Valencia in evening timetable.

The Master’s Degree offers the opportunity of carrying out work placement in companies, institutions and research centres and to making contact with specialized technicians in which they apply the knowledge of History of Art.

There is the possibility of dividing the 60 credits of the Master’s Degree into two academic years, modality recommended to those students with less time availability.

The Master’s Degree in History of Art and Visual Culture, proposed by the Department of History of Art of the UV since its doctorate with a Quality Award, was introduced in the academic year 2009-2010.
