The main objective of this unit is to research the neurological mechanisms implicated in the addiction to nicotine. In order to do so, the psychological and biological aspects will be considered, assessing the behavioral, emotional and cognitive effects and the interaction with other addictive substances. The strategies for smoking control and prevention are also addressed, taking into account the factors and risk groups that are especially vulnerable to this addiction, as well as the possible chemical treating to stop smoking.
