This seminar, which aims to analyse deeply the subject of feminine metamorphosis, it seems to us of great academic interest given its universal nature –it includes all cultures from Antiquity to the present- and for being connected with all disciplines of human thought. Although, in the beginning we will focus on this subject following a mythological, artistic or cultural line, we will not forget the scientific, philosophic or religious perspective. On the other hand, feminine metamorphosis is present in all means of expression: literature, cinema, comic, painting, sculpture, performance and video-clips, but there are no specific subjects in the curriculums of the Humanities degrees that deal detailed and specifically with the evolution and consequences of myths and its representations of female metamorphosis. We believe that this seminar of the University Extension Service will offer a complementary view of an issue of great importance, which is dealt in different degrees tangentially-History of Art, different Language studies, Audiovisual Communication…-without reaching a global perspective.
Currently, gender studies are acquiring prestige in the academic world, and we believe that this seminar will contribute to bring closer the problem of the construction of woman identity and the ontological implications that this entails. From the origins, women have been related to the primitive and to the Nature, mainly due to their biological-reproductive cycle and also due to the social and cultural endevaours for connecting them with basic instincts and irrationality. We will make a chronological and thematic route through the study of the hybridism; woman-plant and woman-animal, for analysing the Feminine Otherness in History.
