Research group in medical physics - GIFIME

Reference of the Group:

GIUV2017-358

Description of research activity:

The research group on Medical Physics develops its activity in the application of imaging techniques and physical applications to the medical and sports fields. In particular, it focuses on: the applicability of Infrared Thermography to the diagnosis and monitoring of pathologies that involve variations in surface body temperature and the study of sporting activity, assessing muscular activity and muscle overload due to overexertion; the determination of topographic maps of the body using structured light for the assessment of asymmetries that enable the diagnosis and monitoring of spinal pathologies; the use of laser speckle techniques for the study of the evolution of cell cultures and deformations in bodies subjected to dynamic and light stress, etc.

Scientific-technical goals:

Research lines:
  • Infrared thermography.Infrared thermography is a completely non-injurious technique that allows the evaluation of surface temperature changes due to superficial vascular variations and in general alteration of thermoregulation, and is therefore applicable to the medical and sports fields.
  • Biospeckle laser.Use of laser speckle techniques to study the activity of cell cultures and body deformations due to dynamic and light stress.
  • Structured light.Structured light consists of a light pattern that allows the surface shape of objects to be analyzed. Determination of topographic maps of the organism through structured light for the assessment of asymmetries that allow spinal pathologies to be diagnosed and monitored.
